Scheduled Scans

The free plugin only scans when an administrator starts a scan. CookieRay Pro adds scheduled automatic scans so your cookie inventory stays current without anyone remembering to run one.

Turn it on

You can set the schedule in either place:

  • Scan History → Schedule Scan — switch on Enable scheduled scanning, choose a frequency, then click Update Schedule.
  • Settings → Automated Cookie Scans — switch on Enable Scheduled Scans, choose a Scan Frequency, then click Save Configuration.

Frequencies

  • Daily
  • Weekly (the default)
  • Monthly (every 30 days, not on a calendar date)

The first scheduled scan runs about an hour after you turn scheduling on. Changing the frequency while scheduling is already on does not reschedule the next run. To change it, switch scheduled scans off, save, then switch them on again with the new frequency.

Some hint text in the admin, such as a time of day or “Every Monday”, describes when a scan might run but is not a fixed schedule.

How it runs

  • Scheduled scans use WordPress Cron. They run when WP-Cron runs, so on low-traffic sites or hosts that disable WP-Cron, timing can drift unless you run a real server cron that triggers WP-Cron.
  • Each automated run scans the same way a manual scan does: it fetches your own site’s public URLs. See Cookie Scanner for coverage and limits.
  • Scans started by the schedule are recorded in Scan History as Automated; scans you start yourself are marked Manual.
  • A scheduled run is skipped if the latest scan completed within the last 24 hours. A daily schedule can therefore be skipped when the previous scan finished less than a day earlier, so some daily runs may be missed.

Without a license

The toggle is locked. If scheduled scanning was already on, the admin shows “Scheduled scans paused — Pro license required.” Scheduled scans do not run, but manual scans keep working.
