Quick Start

This guide takes you from a fresh install to a working consent setup. Follow the steps in order. After activation, CookieRay drops you on the Dashboard, where a checklist mirrors these same steps.

Step 1: Choose a blocking mode in Settings

Go to Settings and pick how CookieRay handles tracking scripts:

  • Log Only — Scripts continue to run, but CookieRay records consent activity. Useful when you want visibility before you start blocking.
  • Strict — Scripts are blocked until the visitor grants consent for the matching category.

Choose Strict when you want consent to actually gate script execution.

Step 2: Customize and enable the banner

Open Banner Design to set up the consent banner. You can:

  • Choose a card or bar layout.
  • Pick one of nine positions on the page.
  • Use the live preview to see your changes as you make them.

The banner is off by default. Nothing shows on your live site until you turn it on, so after customizing, enable the banner to make it appear to visitors.

Run a cookie scan to discover the cookies your site sets. The results populate your Cookie Inventory, giving you a documented list to work from. Scans are recorded in your scan history so you can track changes over time.

Step 4: Categorize your cookies

Open the Cookie Inventory and assign each cookie to a category:

  • Necessary
  • Analytical
  • Functional
  • Marketing

Categorizing cookies ensures the banner’s accept/reject choices map correctly to what runs on your site.

If you use Google services such as Analytics or Ads, enable Google Consent Mode v2 so consent signals are passed along to Google in the expected format.

You’re set up

At this point you have a blocking mode, a live banner, a scanned and categorized cookie inventory, and optionally Consent Mode. Check the Dashboard to confirm your checklist items and review your score.
